Rachel Briks, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP

About

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in New York. I received my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from New York University, where I also studied holistic nursing. My educational training has shaped my understanding of mental health as deeply influenced by access to care, family systems, and life stressors. This perspective allows me to approach treatment with an awareness of both individual experience and the broader contexts that impact emotional well-being.

Prior to becoming Board Certified in Psychiatric Nursing, my professional experience included Neonatal and IVF nursing. While working in the NICU, I supported parents navigating the emotional complexities of having a critically ill infant, and provided psychological support during periods of acute stress and uncertainty. My work with clients navigating the IVF process, supported individuals facing fertility challenges, offering empathetic, trauma-informed care during deeply vulnerable experiences.

As a Board Certified PMHNP, my areas of specialization include perimental health and reproductive psychiatry, including titrating medications that are safe to take during pregnancy, pregnancy loss, postpartum anxiety and depression, and psychiatric care related to infertility and IVF care. Additional areas of focus are ADHD, OCD, PTSD, treatment resistant anxiety and depression.

In addition to clients seeking medication, I specialize in utilizing psychotherapy as a stand-alone treatment, with medication management as an additional resource as needed. Using an integrative and holistic approach, my therapeutic style draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based interventions.

My approach to therapy is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe healing occurs in a space where clients feel safe and free from judgment. Treatment is always individualized and tailored to each client’s strengths, goals, and lived experience, with flexibility to adapt the treatment plan as needs evolve.

Sessions are a space to openly explore concerns, gain insight into how mental health challenges are impacting daily life, and develop practical tools for change. Together, we identify meaningful goals and create a personalized treatment plan aligned with your needs and values. My aim is for clients to leave sessions feeling that they are an active participant in their own care, with increased self-awareness, confidence in decision-making, and a renewed sense of hope.

I am deeply committed to honoring each client’s values, autonomy, and personal goals, and I strive to create a therapeutic environment grounded in empathy, and safety.
